Your role
Given the size and complexity of the local country organisation, local ICT performs 1st and 2nd line ICT support, while the backend systems are provided by Headquarters. The ICT Support engineer provides the 1st line hands-on and remote support for all local departments and staff. Additionally, the ICT Support engineer performs hands-on installation and replacement activities of data centre monitoring and control equipment. 
 

What you’ll need
•    Minimum MBO-3 level in relevant areas such as IT or a comparable study;
•    1-3 years of experience in first-line IT support;
•    Basic knowledge of ITIL, Windows system management, Active Directory;
•    Detailed knowledge of Windows, Office, Windows Servers, IOS and VMWare
•    Good understanding of support for desktops and end users;
•    Communicative skills, pro-active, flexible (participation in an on-call duty roster outside working hours may be required);
•    Good interpersonal skills, Team player, Good prioritizing skills, Good administrative skills
•    Pro-active attitude with hands-on mentality
•    Knowledge of ServiceNow or comparable ticketing systems is an advantage;
•    Basic knowledge of routing and switching is an advantage;
•    Fluent in English and Dutch, both written and oral.

I am responsible for everything related to our ICT network. My day is usually filled with tasks and projects around ensuring the ICT infrastructure is up to the latest standards, that we have stable connectivity and a constantly improving network.

Our department leaders have been tremendous in helping me achieve my dream of getting the most coveted and prestigious IT certificate, which is also one of the hardest in the world. And when I was promoted to a managerial position, it gave me a great opportunity to grow and develop.

What I enjoy most is the people I work with, as we have a great team spirit. We get a lot of freedom to express ourselves as Network Engineers, and a lot of opportunities to be involved in challenging and interesting projects.

The department used to consist of just one internal person and four external engineers. We now have a team of seven, me and six engineers, and I hired four of them. Building my own team and seeing what we can achieve together is a great motivation.

Our team only exists in HQNL, so we serve all the data centres and sometimes we need to travel to other locations. When we upgraded the core switches of the Frankfurt data centres, our entire team went and migrated the network over a weekend due to the size of the data centres and number of devices. The cooperation and team spirit was amazing.

When I arrive at the office I check whether there are any issues in the network. If there are, I will try to solve them first. I will see if anybody has created any tickets with requests for the network and work my way down that list. If I have any spare time, I check the network proactively to see if there are any issues and clean up the network when needed.

I really like the freedom we get in deciding how we work and the room I have to explore new products and technologies. Besides this, I get the opportunity to study for certificates. 

As a technician, I like immersing myself in the latest technologies, and Interxion is constantly improving so I get to test them. If they are approved, I help to deploy them throughout all data centres.

I have been working for Interxion for more than five years now. I appreciate the opportunities for
professional and personal development in particular. I started out as a local ICT support engineer and over the years I have advanced to become a global ICT support engineer and ICT support consultant. I have been team leader for the local ICT team in Germany since 2018.

I really enjoy my daily challenges and appreciate the fact that they are constantly changing as the company develops. These continuous changes offer opportunities for my personal development. And even as we grow as a company, the atmosphere remains open and familiar. This is also reflected in our working culture, which I experience as very team-oriented and communicative. We actively live an open-door policy and you can go into any department to ask a question or get advice.

We are a motivated team; we focus on our goals and we have a lot of freedom to realize them. By the way, the office equipment also contributes to our great working atmosphere. We use the most modern hardware as far as our smartphones and laptops are concerned. We can hold video conferences in all meeting rooms in a straightforward and simple manner. We use top hardware not only at our desks, but also at the coffee bar, of course, which I am particularly happy about as someone who loves coffee. The same thing goes for our bike leasing program, one of our offers for employees that I use every day, as I commute to work by bike.
