As a critical services Shift Engineer, you will provide the technical support that is required for monitoring, servicing, maintenance and fault-finding on critical data infrastructure and associated equipment. You will ensure a reliable and effective service delivery that meets (and exceeds) our customers’ expectations and will work to industry highest standards. Work with third party vendors who maintain chilled water, air conditioning, ventilating and other mechanical and electrical equipment, although you will perform some preventative maintenance on your own as necessary.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Conduct planned and reactive maintenance on the building services infrastructure utilizing CMMS systems in accordance with standard operating procedures.
•    Conduct routine plant inspections / site checks and monitor the Building Management System, responding to issues/ anomalies / alarms found and ensuring that appropriate action is taken.
•    Identify any non-compliant areas /faulty equipment and take corrective actions to address these within required timescales.
•    Provide first line response to all building services infrastructure on site, escalating as necessary and calling out third party contractors where specialist knowledge/skills are required.
•    Assisting, as necessary, with scheduling of preventive maintenance, contracted maintenance and general maintenance with minimum disruption of building services.
•    Ensure that all works are carried out using a Safe System of Work with the use of an approved change management, risk assessment and method operating procedures. All works to be to industry best practice and meeting statutory compliance as required.

•    To assist in the issuing of permits and take responsibility for ensuring all sub-contractors working on site are supervised to work within the agreed limitations
•    Operate the Quality Management processes developed by Digital Realty in accordance with specific standard operating processes.
•    Ensure the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is utilized by all engineers and all sub-contractors on site.
•    Assist in the purchasing of critical spare parts and supplies as necessary as per the approval process and work to ensure that use of critical spares is tracked and stock maintained and updated.

 

We’re looking for:

•    Recognised formal Electrical training (City and Guilds etc.)
•    Knowledge of operation of critical building infrastructure (eg electrical, mechanical and fabric)
•    Security Cleared to BS7858
•    AP15 course (within 12 months)
•    Working as a Building Service Engineer in a critical environment
•    Team working
•    Undertaking multi-discipline engineering tasks
•    Computer literate with a good standard of IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft business
packages
•    Excellent verbal and non-verbal communications e.gg IT/written
•    Strong customer focus
•    Calm manner, able to work well under pressure
•    Reading and understanding electrical drawings/circuits and assist in maintaining of same
•    Strong rapport and relationship building skills with both internal and external customers
•    Effective problem-solving skills
•    Be flexible and adaptable, self-motivated and a pro-active worker
•    Excellent team player
•    Produce work to a consistently high standard and drive a programme of continuous improvement
•    Work well under pressure and to deadlines/targets
•    Lead by example at adopting company policy and procedure
•    Ability to communicate with, meet and exceed targets and customers’ expectations effectively

The best thing about working here is the communication with my team. For every problem you encounter, you have at least one or two colleagues that will help you to solve it or improve a procedure.

We know our work is crucial for the company so we treat every task with respect, but we also really like to laugh and make jokes. A busy working day is easier to conquer with a smile on your face.

Almost every employee has their own parking space. If we don’t want to use our parking spot, we can give it back and get subsidised public transport costs instead. There are two supermarkets nearby and a canteen. If you’re not in a rush and can extend your lunch break, there are some really good restaurants and Viennese inns near us.

In my five years here, I’ve never had a day where I had to force myself to go to work, and that’s quite an accomplishment for a company these days. I value the relationship I have with my superiors – there’s a mutual respect on both sides and that’s one of the most important things for me.

One of the first things I noticed when I started here was how friendly and welcoming everyone was. Senior managers have always showed their appreciation for our hard work, which makes me want to put that extra effort into everything I do.

The office space is great for the size of our team, with a big kitchen area which is great for getting together with everyone for lunch or fika, as you do in Sweden. The best facilities we have in the building are the gym, sauna and swimming pool, which I take advantage of in my free time.

Being part of the 24/7 Customer Support team, we have a few shared workspace areas and hot desks which we use when we move from one side of the building to the other when responding to jobs, which helps a lot. 

It is very social and collaborative. Every Friday everyone sits down for breakfast together and has a catch up, which is a nice way to get to know everyone.

I take care of the infrastructure in the data centres, the cooling, backup power and ventilation. I like the job because it’s very interesting and I learn about new equipment and how to control technical devices. I’ve found myself in a position where my hobby is also my job, and I always enjoy going to work.

I usually start by planning the day to make sure that both booked appointments and maintenance are taken care of. Then I usually go out on site to meet up with the contractors and my colleagues to perform our daily tasks.

Most of the challenges I face are when I’m planning for jobs I’ve never done before. It’s challenging to work out the small details, the method, how long it will take, which contractors to use and how to fit things together.

It’s a great place to work for people who want to keep developing in their area. We have a very good induction programme for new employees, which states that we should always continue learning.

Every day there is a new challenge or a surprise. There is always an unplanned element and if I make a schedule for the day, there is a big chance that the day will look different. It’s very dynamic but I like the challenge of organising and managing it with my team. It makes my job fun.

The office is in an industrial area just outside a town and there are many nice restaurants nearby. There are bus stops right around the corner, the airport is 10 minutes’ drive away, and there are connections by trains and a car park on the premises.

Every employee should attend the ICM once so they understand what a great company we work for. I loved seeing how people interact with each other and how open the culture is. There was a very good vibe.

There is an international Manager Operations community and we come together three or four times a year to share ideas and problems. There is a lot of support from headquarters. The overall attitude is very positive and open-minded, I’m inspired to give the job my all.

The office environment is very welcoming, with a good atmosphere and team spirit. It’s very easy to settle in as a new employee. We have excellent facilities, with a kitchen, showers, TV and complimentary snacks. The business park is very nice with lots of space, nature and a lake with wildlife, which is great for a walk or run at lunchtime. There’s plenty of parking on site with a perimeter fence and 24/7 security, or you can get a bus or cycle here.

Anything you need to do your job effectively will generally be accommodated. Management’s doors are always open, which is a great support and an important part of the culture. There are opportunities to gain valuable experience and progress your career both at a local and company wide level, with most roles offering the chance to travel at some point.

I am passionate about doing things the right way and I enjoy leading a project from start to finish. I find collaborating and listening to people’s opinions very beneficial, so I involve other members of the team where I can to create a more rounded solution. I also enjoy deep-diving into the more technical aspects and understanding why things work the way they do. Working here allows for that variation.

The fast-paced, ever changing environment is a challenge, but everyone’s attitude and commitment to improving is what makes us successful and I enjoy being a part of that.

I am one of three team leaders in my facility department in Frankfurt and have been part of Interxion for almost two years. I started as a facility engineer and, within only a short time, I was promoted to team leader for the campus in Frankfurt’s Weismüllerstraße.

What I appreciate most here is the high level of personal responsibility and the freedom I have in my job. This allows us to be quite flexible in our activities. Working in our data centers constantly presents us with new challenges, which we can master thanks to our ongoing training. The management is available and responsive, always ready to listen, especially when we need support in decision-making in a critical situation.

The combination of a perfect team and a perfect working environment gives me the motivation to make Interxion even better every day. Thanks to flexible working hours, our employees come to work in a relaxed manner. The office culture is very team-oriented, and we treat each other less like colleagues and more like friends. At the beginning of the year, we get together for a kick-off meeting where we get to know the other departments and our colleagues, take part in workshops together and compete as a team in the annual company run. And: many of us have also become friends.
